Om Puri is one of the actors who was an eminent figure in parallel cinema in the 1980s and 90s. Movies which not only had great artistic value but also entertained us. Being associated with parallel cinema we remember him for his serious roles like in Ardh Satya, Aakrosh, Maachis to name a few. And Tamas, Bharat Ek Khoj in the small screen. He is not with us anymore, but he left behind a legacy. His work will continue to entertain us. So here are a few instances when he made us laugh.

Janne Bhi Do yaaron

Here is scene when you find Om Puri a drunkard trying to help another, or so it seems. He is a corrupt businessman who is at the same time innocent, a bit stupid, and has a good heart otherwise.

Maqbool

He plays a corrupt police officer with his friend Naseeruddin Shah. They are loyal to whosoever is in power. They play the role of the witch prophesying for Maqbool (Macbeth), also making fun of things as he does it. It is the dialogues and the way he delivers it that makes us smile.

Chachi 420

A not so loyal secretary. All he cares about is getting favours from his employer (Amrish Puri). He helps the employer only to prove that he is right.

Hera Pheri

An innocent man who helps his friend financially. And now the friend is unable to give the money back. In this scene, he goes to get the money out of him. It is his punjabiness seen in Kharak Singh who do things loudly, at times forgetting the need of the hour.
